Eight UC San Diego Researchers Elected 2025 AAAS Fellows

Eight researchers at the University of California San Diego have been elected 2025 Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS): Andrew D. Chisholm, Farinaz Koushanfar, Albert P. Pisano, Ravi Ramamoorthi, JoAnn Trejo, Emily Troemel, Meenakshi Wadhwa and Sheng Zhong. Full Story

Brain-inspired Device Could Lead to Faster, More Energy-efficient AI Hardware

A brain-inspired hardware platform could lead to the development of compact, low-power AI hardware. By mimicking how the brain processes information, the platform improved the speed, accuracy and energy efficiency of simulated tasks such as spoken-digit recognition and early seizure detection. Shubhanshu Shekhar receives Shannon Graduate Fellowship

Shubhanshu Shekhar, MICS Ph.D candidate from the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has been awarded the prestigious Shannon Graduate Fellowship for the academic year 2019-2020. This annual award was created by Prof. Jack K. Wolf in 2008 and has historically recognized a distinguished group of graduate student at UCSD who, at UCSD and beyond, have demonstrated outstanding achievements in information theory. As stated in the fellowship announcement, the award recognizes Shekhar’s “exceptional quality of his technical accomplishments” with his PhD advisor and MICS director Prof Tara Javidi as well his senior collaborator and MICS faculty Prof. Siavash Mirarab.

Dr. Sadegh Riazi receives Jacobs Graduate Council Award and William S.C. Chang Best Ph.D. Dissertation Award

Dr. Riazi has been working with Prof. Koushanfar in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. His research focus is a new set of technologies that enable computation on encrypted data.
